Customer Testimonials

I was struggling with extreme fatigue, vertigo and dizziness, shortness of breath, and troubling heart flutters—I was swamped by symptoms. Medical tests hinted at MCAS with a bleak prescription of endless meds. Then, Krystal stepped in. With her targeted supplement regime, strategic lifestyle tweaks, and a tailored low histamine diet, my symptoms didn’t just improve, they plummeted. Journeying further into her program, I underwent a profound transformation. To say I'm thankful doesn't cut it—I'm eternally transformed.

Shannon

I had already worked with excellent doctors and spent a significant amount on tests and protocols, which all contributed to some extent; however, I was limited and on multiple medications. I was referred to Krystal, who was MCAS informed, but she swiftly shifted my focus away from protocols and aided me in understanding that my lifestyle factors and emotional health were the true catalysts in keeping me fragile. I was resistant at first, but I can now say without a doubt that being guided to Krystal helped me make a serious life change, and now I am living a full life again.

How Healing Happens

How Healing REALLY Happens

April 11, 20245 min read

“Healing chronic illness is so much more than protocols, extreme diets and meditation. Those things help but it's not the full picture."

If you have been on a healing journey for some time and have stumbled upon my work and method to healing chronic illness then you are most likely aware that developing chronic illness is much more complex then what the conventional medicine world would have you believe. Consistent symptoms lead us to a doctor's brief audience, where they have about 12 minutes to listen. They nod; they scribble; they send us off with prescriptions for an arsenal of basic tests. Yet these tests often miss the mark, barely skimming the surface of our underlying health woes. Many resign, feeling unheard, their legitimate suffering dismissed—a system's failure to illuminate the shadows where chronic illness lurks. Any discussion on diving deeper? Examine your hormones thoroughly? Explore thyroid complexities with full panels, inflammation, liver function—your body's signs of distress? Are they clarifying the fine line between optimal blood marker ranges and signs of markers trending in the wrong direction? What about mold—and properly testing for mycotoxins?

In today's whirlwind of medical care, true healing is often lost in the rushed 12-minute encounters with healthcare professionals. Now, this isn't a tale of good versus evil; there's no villainizing modern medicine here—I stand in awe of its purpose in life-or-death moments and surgical marvels. Yet, with complex, chronic illnesses, the current narrative is insufficient for those yearning to break free from a web of medications seeking not just relief, but actual healing.

With that said, here are 8 overlooked healing steps, to embrace to get to the other side of chronic illness.

1. brain retraining

This one method can shift you 70-80% into a healing state, if done properly and with consistency. Its also the most resisted tool in all my years of working with chronically ill patients. This method is about calming down the limbic system by using repetitive patterns to rewire. Over time this will create new neural pathways and essentially retrain the brain to stop perceiving your body and illness as dangerous. However brain retraining alone is not enough and there are many programs that claim it is.

2. maintaining a consistent circadian rhythm

In the hustle of modern life, it's easy to overlook one of the most fundamental aspects of our biology: our circadian rhythm. This internal clock regulates our sleep-wake cycle, hormone production, metabolism, and other essential bodily functions over a 24-hour period. However, with the prevalence of artificial lighting, irregular work schedules, and screen time, many of us disrupt our circadian rhythms, leading to various health issues. But fear not, because with a few lifestyle adjustments, you can restore balance to your circadian rhythm and reap the benefits of improved health and well-being. Most people with chronic illness about 98% of the people I work with have very dysregulated circadian rhythms. This is a must fix for healing chronic illness.

3. nervous system regulation

Nervous system regulation is fundamental to our overall health and well-being, influencing everything from our mood and cognitive function to our immune response and resilience to stress. It is crucial to explore some practical strategies for nurturing nervous system health and promoting vitality in our daily lives.

4. somatic work

The primary benefit of Somatic work lies in its ability to help individuals release and resolve the stored energy of trauma in the nervous system, promoting healing and restoring a sense of safety and well-being. When we are chronically ill we feel limited in doing movement and exercise but moving the body in even small and specific ways is crucial to healing even if it is much less than you are used to doing.

5. breathwork

Breathwork, in its various forms, can be profoundly healing for both the body and mind. Here's how:

  1. Regulation of the Nervous System

  2. Release of Tension and Emotional Healing

  3. Increased Oxygenation and Vitality

  4. Enhanced Mindfulness and Presence

  5. Improved Respiratory Function

  6. Promotion of Relaxation and Sleep

Overall, breathwork offers a powerful tool for holistic healing, addressing the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and spirit. Whether used for stress reduction, emotional healing, or enhancing overall well-being, the simple act of conscious breathing has the potential to unlock profound levels of healing and transformation.

6. finding joy

In essence, finding joy in life is healing because it nourishes every aspect of our being—body, mind, and spirit. It enhances our resilience, strengthens our relationships, and promotes overall well-being, helping us thrive and flourish in the face of life's challenges. Chronic illness can cause us to be rigid and serious. Routines are important for healing but not at the expense of losing joy in our everyday lives so we must seek it daily. It can be small or large but finding joy is important.

7. gratitude

Having a gratitude practice is important for healing because it shifts our focus from what may be lacking or challenging in our lives to recognizing and appreciating the abundance of blessings, both big and small.

8. moving through trauma

Books like, "the body keeps the score". highlight the very well known fact that our bodies hold on to trauma. I have noticed those of us with chronic illness have a higher rate of trauma. It's common to go straight to restrictive diets and protocols when starting to heal chronic illness. Those things can be important at first but not more so then going deep on stored trauma and doing the internal work.
